You might have heard of slow strength training in recently published articles in Newsweek, GQ, The Dallas Morning News or The New York Times. You might have also seen a segment on the Today Show with Katie Curic or seen on 48 Hours that Barbara Walters and Lesley Stahl are now doing a program based on the same principles (Power of 10). If you have yet to hear about this do not worry, you still have time to make the important decision to improve your health and achieve all of your fitness goals.

Why Strength Training?
One might ask, “Why strength training?” Well the answer lies in the fact that lean muscle mass burns more calories than one can burn during their normal “cardiovascular” regimen. As Jim Karas wrote in his best-selling book entitled The Business Plan for the Body, “Go to any health club. Walk into the cardiovascular room. What do you see? Dozens, maybe hundreds of people on treadmills, StairMasters, etc. Notice that the vast majority of these individuals are overweight. Many of these people spend hours each week on one of these machines…desperate to lose weight, and firmly believing that all this cardiovascular exercise will burn hundreds, even thousands of calories and enable them to achieve their goal, weight loss. Now go to the strength training room. What do you see? The majority of individuals doing strength training are in vastly better shape. In which room should you spend the majority of your time?”
